update: con appearance
Later this month I will be attending the second annual ALAMO CITY COMIC CON (www.alamocitycomiccon.com) in lovely San Antonio, Texas. The dates are September 26-28 and I will either be at my table (C3) or hanging with my great friend and talented cartoonist, Jesus Correa (www.facebook.com/jdcorreasketchart) at table A15 as guests of CSA Comics LLC. I am opening a small list of commissions for the con. Please email me (cabaleiro.art@gmail.com)what you are looking to get done a

my top requested commissions
Over the last year, more and more, my top requested commissions seem to be someone's likeness as a superhero. It's a ton of fun doing these pieces. These commissions are quite honestly totally in my wheel house (likenesses and superheroics). Other than being perfectly suited for my modest artsitic talents, the best part of this kind of work is getting the feedback after it's gifted. It really makes me feel great to hear how much the artwork is loved and appreciated. I often a

Central Florida residents and vistiors to the city Mickey built, I will be attending CONjure Con's inaugral Orlando-area event this upcoming weekend (August 1-3). The event is being held at the DoubleTree Hilton at Universal Orlando (across the street from the main entrance to Universal). Tickets are still avaiable at the door. update: new gallery addition
Welcome to 2014. I started the New Year with a new addition to the gallery. The cat and the bat was a piece I worked on to end 2013. Simple and bold, it's a new favorite of mine. The piece is available on society 6 (t-shirts, hoodies, prints and iphone cases) and fineartamerica (high quality prints on paper, canvas, metal and framed options). Both sites have a black and white version of the art as well. I will also be adding a limited edition (signed and numbered) print run i

about me: 7-11 and making comics
I love comic books. I have from as early as I can remember. The visual medium of comics is viseral and gripping. It communicates in ways that just prose can't do. Every page, every panel plays such a crucial part in story, structure, tone, voice and in just conveying action and feeling. From the prehistoric era (the cave paintings of Lascaux, France) to the modern comic book, visual storytelling has been a part of human communication and interaction. I wish I could tell you e

gotham film fatales print series
I've been working on this series for a while now. It came from a brain-storming session with my significant other, Kristina. She is a lover of old Hollywood, pin ups, burlesque and Batman. This was a brilliant idea on her part that combined all of her favoirte things. We've had a really good time in "casting" the roles of the female villains. Expect to see illustrations inspired by Lauren Bacall, Raquel Welsch, Marilyn Monroe, Eva Gardner, Sophia Loren and others. These print

blank comic cover variants
I'm a long-time comic book reader and collector. I always followed Overstreet Comic Price Guide on my grading of comic book conditions. One major no-no in the comic book collecting grading was any writing on a comic book. It automatically downgraded any comic to a very good/good/poor condition. In the ninties, when getting books signed increased their market value, I did not participate in that craze. I still saw it as degrading the comic. Then I discovered blank cover varian

my art in the real world
Its great to see images in your head come to life on a sheet of paper, canvas or a computer screen. The satisfaction you get when you see your art in the "real world" is even better. For example, a piece of art I did inspired someone to add it to themselves forever. This is a great compliment to my work and a pretty sweet piece of ink. I dig it. #tattoo #sally #zero #nightmarebeforechristmas #artwork #cabaleiroart #cabaleiroart #carloscabaleiro #childrensbookillustrator #comi

making your way in the world today takes everything you've got
I'm borrowing the opening lyric from the theme song from Cheers. Not only is it extremely catchy and one of the greatest TV theme songs of all time, it's a poignant statement on the concept of being an entrepreneur/self employed/self published. It takes hard work, creativity, business savvy, outside the box thinking and a profound belief in one's self. That can be especially hard in this world of conformity and comfort, where one is judged by your annual salary, credit score,
